stuttgart

olga hospital and women’s clinic

how do you animate an environment that has no positive association, or make sick children laugh and ease the pain of their loved ones, while also meeting all the requirements of a modern hospital, conforming with fire codes and ensuring proper hygiene?

the task: to design an area of 100,000 square meters, including decorating nearly 20,000 square meters of wall space with hand-painted motifs, and creating continent-themed waiting areas, an arch of hope as a toy ship, animals as protagonists in a child-friendly guidance system, and wall games on stations and in corridors that teach developmental-psychologically exactly what is deficient from a disease-specific point of view.

the project began in 2009 in the context of a competition initiated by the city of stuttgart.

in may 2014, the hospital was opened. lohrmannarchitekt continues to design additional areas in the hospital, as our concept has been received with great joy by both the patients and visitors.
